DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION

Travel to Waitotara and hear about the history of Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi.  From there travel to Tapuarau (Hawken’s Lagoon Conservation Area) and take a 20 minute walk through the farm to the estuary, stopping off to look at the farmer’s efforts in maintaining wetlands.  Hear DOC staff and locals talk about the significance of Tapuarau and the restoration work taking place.  Sturdy footwear needed.
