17. Lake Rotopounamu/Te Porere Redoubt

FRIENDS OF THE WHANGANUI SUMMER PROGRAMME

Rotopounamu (greenstone lake), near Turangi, is noted for its bush and prolific bird life. Enjoy an easy 2 hour walk around the lake. Also the opportunity for a swim. Commentary from Tongariro Natural History Society members. On the way home we call at Te Porere Redoubt, the site of the last battle of the New Zealand wars. Reasonable footwear recommended.
